The Bridge Builder
My journey from Xi'an to Berkeley and back has shaped my mission: building bridges between cultures, technologies, and generations in computer science education.
My Story
Growing up in Xi'an, I discovered that the most meaningful learning happens when we build bridges—between cultures, between complex ideas and simple understanding, and between what technology can do and how it can help people. This realization would become the foundation of everything I do.
My journey truly began when I had the opportunity to study at UC Berkeley during their summer session. Far from home, facing new challenges in a different educational system, I learned that adversity isn't just about overcoming obstacles—it's about using those experiences to build something better for others.
When I returned to Xi'an Jiaotong University to pursue research in deep learning and explainable AI, I brought with me a unique perspective: the ability to see problems through both Eastern and Western educational lenses. This dual perspective became my superpower in creating solutions that work for diverse communities.
But technology alone isn't enough. The real impact comes from education—from taking complex computer science concepts and making them accessible to everyone, starting with the youngest learners. This is why I created COMPSCI 0.10, a comprehensive course that has now reached over 350 elementary school students.
Every challenge I've faced—from navigating cultural differences to explaining AI concepts to 8-year-olds—has reinforced my belief that the future of technology depends on our ability to democratize access to computer science education. I'm not just building AI systems; I'm building the next generation of thinkers who will use technology to solve humanity's greatest challenges.
My Vision
To create a world where computer science education is accessible to everyone, where AI systems are explainable and beneficial to society, and where technology truly serves as a bridge between cultures and communities.
